Monday 14th August - Windsurf **** The Dip at Felixstowe – sunny period.
Foil – 17.30 knot max, 15.26 knot ave, 10.94 knot hour, 15.11 knot mile,
33.86 km., 12.15 knot alpha.
Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham
Storm 6.5.
After three sessions in as many days I was hoping to have today off but
after the early rain had cleared the sun came out and we got a moderate
breeze from the south so I arranged to meet up with Ian and Robert at The
Dip around 1.30 giving the tide a chance to drop as the beach has
disappeared of late! This gave me time to do my exercises in the sunny back
garden, made lunch and headed down to the beach taking Mag so she could
walk home. Ian and Robert were already rigging their fin gear with a fin
sailor already out with 6.7. There was just enough beach to launch but with
the wind cross on there was a bit of a dump but nothing too bad. Foil board
ready and it was not as windy as yesterday so I rigged 6.5 which proved
ideal until sadly the wind dropped late in the session! I got off the beach
with no problems by swimming a little way out but the other two foilers had
more trouble launching:( I was hoping to sail over to the large Firefly
fleet racing off the Deben entrance but they were heading in as I sailed
out! So, I decided to beat down the coast, once again the sea was pretty
big which made for some challenging sailing but I soon made it down to
nearly the Manor Martello Tower, gybed and had the most amazing nearly 4
mile run back sailing a lot of it close to the beach. Reaching the red and
white bouy I beat out to sea with the aim of doing it all again. The wind
did go light when I was in the lumpy Deben entrance and I dropped in
turning but the wind returned and I made it all the way to The Fludyers
before the wind dropped right out as it clouded over with a little light
rain and I had to wobble back in a big sea, not pleasant but I made it back
OK and had a good sail for the most part, just could have done without the
wind dropping at the end! Hopefully that’s it for a few days and we can
do something else!
